Canned Ham – 223 77GR SB MOD-2
Introducing our latest evolution in hog hunting ammo – Canned Ham. Built off the success of our original 77GR SB, we’ve gone back to the drawing board and the boom room to create something even better: SB MOD-2.
Why MOD-2? Because Better Matters.
This updated version brings:
-
Lower Standard Deviations
-
Higher Velocities
-
Tighter Precision Standards
Canned Ham MOD-2 must perform at 1 MOA or better at 100 yards through any appropriately twisted barrel to make it into production. Thousands of rounds were tested to make sure it exceeded those expectations.
Specs & Barrel Recommendations:
-
Bullet: 77GR Nosler Custom Competition
-
Optimized for Short Barrel, Suppressed AR Platforms
-
Recommended Twist Rates: 1:6, 1:7, 1:8 (Most platforms today are 1:7, which works extremely well)
While we cannot guarantee sub-MOA groups across all platforms due to countless variables—rifle configurations, gas systems, environmental conditions, and shooter skill—we are actively expanding our rifle test library to include more common setups.
Purpose-Built for Short Barrels
Canned Ham is specifically engineered for short barrel, suppressed ARs. The "SB" stands for Short Barrel, which ties directly to our powder selection. We use a fast-burning powder to ensure a clean burn rate in these configurations, reducing:
-
Blowback
-
Muzzle flash (important for night vision/thermal use)
-
System fouling
-
Gas exposure to the shooter
Yes, it can be used in bolt guns, and many customers do so. Yes, it can cycle in longer AR gas systems with suppressors, but it’s not guaranteed to function 100% reliably outside its intended use case.
We do not recommend using this ammo in piston-operated rifles at this time. It’s optimized for direct impingement systems with traditional baffled suppressors. As more low-backpressure suppressors enter the market, keep in mind that heavily reduced pressure can lead to cycling issues unless the rifle is properly tuned—which we do not recommend unless you're highly experienced.
More on this later… (we’re calling it “The SIG Equation.”)
Why the 77GR Nosler Custom Comp?
Not chosen for its ballistic performance—but for its real-world game performance at short-barrel velocities. We field-tested this round extensively on hogs and whitetail and performed follow-up autopsies to ensure it met our standards. It also pairs perfectly with our proprietary powder blend.
Velocity Testing & Environmental Conditions:
All ammo is tested in-house under real-world hunting conditions:
-
Elevation: 2,500 ft
-
Temperature: 70°F
-
Humidity: 35%
-
Barrels: Suppressed, realistic-length AR test rifles
-
Velocity Results: Averaged from multiple 10-shot strings

200-Round Blem Box
The 200-round Blem Box is simply a bulk pack of ammo. The projectiles may have slight cosmetic blemishes, but this does not affect performance in any way. This is a great way to stock up on high-performance ammo at a lower cost.
A Final Word on Safety & Responsibility:
Every round is hand-loaded and tested across multiple rifle platforms. However, due to the nature of custom and high-performance ammo, you must inspect for pressure signs when firing in your rifle. Some loads may run hotter than factory ammo.
Ally Munitions Mission Statement
We exist to serve modern hunters and shooters with purpose-built ammunition. Whether you're targeting prairie dogs or elk, our ammo isn't chosen at random—it's selected, developed, and tested specifically for the job.
Our load development isn’t done with a single test barrel in a sterile lab. We run our loads through a wide range of barrels, platforms, and field tests—including gel blocks and real hunts. We don’t marry ourselves to a single brand for components either—we choose each component based on what works best for the task at hand.
We are hunters. We are shooters. And our ammo reflects that. Ally Munitions will continue to deliver tested, refined, and trusted ammunition—so you can be confident in the field, every time.
