Testing Conditions

All test groups were fired suppressed using a variety of off-the-shelf factory rifles. Testing was conducted under controlled environmental conditions:

  • Elevation: 2,550 ft

  • Temperature: 70°F

  • Humidity: 35%

Observations

Hornady’s advertised velocity of 3,200 fps was closely confirmed in our 24" barrel, aligning perfectly with real-world data. As expected, velocity decreased incrementally in shorter barrels, though our 18" barrel unexpectedly tested slower than the 16".

This anomaly is under further review. Potential causes include a slower twist rate, barrel fouling, or possibly even a burn rate efficiency shift due to reduced pressure curves. Interestingly, the lower velocity may have yielded a more complete powder burn, as reflected in the notably low SD. We’ll be doing a deep-dive analysis on this outlier.

The 22" velocity is an estimate, pending the arrival of our dedicated test barrel. Once data is available, we’ll publish verified results.

Across all test platforms, group sizes remained sub-MOA, and SDs clearly improved with increased barrel length, suggesting the powder blend performs best with longer dwell time and more complete combustion.

Field Use

We have not yet begun field testing this load, but plan to throughout the upcoming season. Based on construction and test performance, we anticipate excellent results for predators, varmints, and potentially light game. Once field results are in, we’ll update with terminal performance notes.
