A Deeper Look at the 6mm ARC
Originally introduced by Hornady in 2020, the 6mm Advanced Rifle Cartridge (ARC) was created to maximize the ballistic potential of the AR-15 platform. Derived from a necked-down 6.5 Grendel case, the ARC supports high-BC 6mm bullets while maintaining a compact case geometry. It delivers greater retained energy and flatter trajectories than .223/5.56, while staying lighter and softer-recoiling than .308 or 6.5 Creedmoor.
The 6mm ARC has rapidly become a favorite among hunters, competitors, and precision rifle shooters—and is now gaining traction with military and law enforcement as a do-it-all intermediate cartridge.
