You may have a higher chance of spotting a nocturnal buck during daylight hours or encountering a completely new one roaming through your area.

The key to success during the rut isn’t necessarily tracking a specific buck—it’s understanding the habits of the local doe population. Knowing where the does feed, bed, and travel is far more valuable during this chaotic time than trying to predict a buck’s movements. Bucks will naturally follow the does, so focusing on their patterns will increase your chances of crossing paths with a mature deer.

While this strategy is always valuable during early and late seasons, it becomes crucial during the rut. Mature bucks are unpredictable, often venturing far from their usual territories. There’s no telling where a particular buck might end up, so keeping tabs on the does is your best bet.
