Canned Ham – 223 Rem 77gr Nosler Custom Comp SB MOD-3

Built for Short Barrels. Proven on Hogs.

The Canned Ham Series is our dedicated lineup for high-volume hog hunters and suppressed rifle users—optimized for short barrel performance in real-world scenarios. SB MOD-3 represents the next evolution in this line, bringing enhanced precision and consistency to serious field applications.

Like everything we build, Canned Ham SB MOD-3 is handloaded with proven components, tailored for your setup—not just a test barrel. This update reflects what we learned in thousands of rounds of R&D and live hunts. If you’re running a suppressed AR in 1:7 or faster, this is your new go-to.

Canned Ham isn’t just a name—it’s a standard.
It’s a guarantee that we’ve tested, refined, and built job-specific ammunition that’s tailored for a specific role.

When we set out to develop Canned Ham, we focused on solving common issues associated with high-volume suppressed shooting. That meant reducing muzzle flash, extending cleaning intervals, and squeezing out more velocity—all while optimizing for short barrels and traditional suppressor setups.

We did just that. And now, MOD-3 continues that evolution with slightly higher velocity than MOD-2—keeping the same performance-driven standard you’ve come to expect from the Canned Ham lineup.

Why We Created SB MOD-3

We weren’t content with “good enough.” After extensive feedback and field testing, we upgraded this load to deliver:

  • Lower standard deviations

  • Faster muzzle velocities

  • Tighter group standards (1 MOA or better in test barrels)

MOD-3 was designed with suppressed, short barrel ARs in mind. While it functions well in some longer gas systems and even bolt guns, this is a purpose-driven load. And it hits hard where it counts.

Projectile Details

  • Bullet: 77gr Nosler Custom Competition (Open Tip Match)

  • Construction: Lead Core / Jacketed

  • G1 Ballistic Coefficient: 0.340

  • Application: Hog hunting, suppressed use, short-barrel optimization

  • Recommended Twist Rate: 1:6 to 1:8 (1:7 ideal)

While not traditionally a hunting bullet, this projectile has proven itself on hogs in short barrels. Terminal performance is reliable at close to mid-range, and the powder blend is selected for reduced flash and optimal gas behavior.

Barrel and Platform Recommendations

This load was developed specifically for:

  • Short-barreled AR-15s (10.3”–12.5”)

  • Suppressed, direct impingement systems

  • Thermal/night vision hunting setups

⚠️ We do not recommend use in piston systems or low-backpressure suppressors unless the rifle is tuned for such configurations. Cycling performance is best in traditional DI setups.

Velocity Chart

Updated velocity table coming soon.

All velocity data is recorded at our West Texas test facility (2,500 ft elevation, 70°F) using suppressed rifles. When available, our tables will reflect real-world chronograph data + cold-weather projections based on known powder sensitivity.

Care & Storage

  • Store in a sealed, cool, dry place

  • Inspect for signs of pressure in unfamiliar rifles

  • Clean suppressed systems every 100–150 rounds

Ally Munitions Mission Statement

At Ally Munitions, we don’t just load ammo—we build tools for the modern hunter. Our goal is to create purpose-built ammunition with components selected for real-world performance, not just brochure specs. Every load is tested in real rifles, in real terrain, and often, on real game.

We use the right brass, the right primer, the right burn rate—and we test every combination until we get it dialed. That’s why our rounds hit harder, run cleaner, and group tighter where it counts. Because we shoot too. And we want the same performance in the field that you do.
