Military-Grade Performance. American-Made Reliability.

The Frontier® 5.56 NATO 55gr M193 FMJ, manufactured by Hornady, delivers proven military-spec performance with the precision and quality control of Hornady’s modern loading techniques. Built to NATO standards, this round is ideal for high-volume range training, drills, and tactical applications in semi-auto or full-auto platforms.

What is M193?

M193 is the U.S. military designation for standard 55-grain 5.56 NATO full metal jacket ammunition. Originally adopted for the M16 rifle, it is designed to function reliably in 20" barrels and longer, achieving velocities around 3,250 FPS. While optimized for 1:12 twist rates, it performs well in modern 1:7 and 1:9 twist barrels as well.

M193 is known for:

  • Flat trajectory and moderate recoil, ideal for training and practice

  • Lead-core, non-steel jacketed bullet — safe for most ranges

  • Terminal fragmentation at high velocity, making it a capable defensive or small game load in a pinch

  • Strict NATO pressure spec compliance, meaning it's hotter than standard .223 Remington loads

Unlike commercial .223 Remington, 5.56 NATO M193 is loaded to higher pressure and should be fired only in firearms rated for 5.56 NATO.
