Load Overview

The 130gr Berger VLDH has long been a standout among serious long-range hunting bullets. We chose to build a Premier load around it for one reason: performance.

Designed with a secant ogive profile and thinner J4 jacket, the VLDH retains energy with a high ballistic coefficient while also delivering devastating expansion after 2–3 inches of penetration. Its rapid expansion creates a large wound channel, but the controlled disruption means reliable energy transfer without unpredictable blow-through. This makes it ideal for deer-sized game, especially at longer distances.

Because of its design, the VLDH shoots flatter and drifts less in the wind than traditional hunting bullets, with outstanding retained velocity. Its shape and jacket quality also make it forgiving to variations in seating depth and twist rate, giving you consistent results across a wider range of rifles.

These are actual recorded velocities at 75°F. We’ve also run the numbers through our internal simulation, which factors in barrel variance at each length and accounts for a temperature drop to 30°F. This gives you a reliable look at performance in colder conditions. As always, we recommend you chronograph your ammo through your own platform for the most accurate results.
