GOAT Series – 6mm ARC 87gr Berger VLDH

GOAT Series – Greatest Of All Time. Greatest Of All Tasks.

THIS AMMO IS TURNED UP A LITTLE, YOU PURCHASE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Important Product Notice – Please Read Before Purchasing

Before purchasing this ammunition, please read our detailed blog post titled “AR Projectile Sticking Explained: Freebore, Seating Depth, and Rifle Tuning.”

Due to variations in AR chamber dimensions, freebore length, rifle tuning, and chamber cleanliness, some users may experience projectile contact with the lands or projectile sticking. This is a known issue within the AR platform and is discussed in detail in the blog, along with what we are doing to address it and what you can do to reduce the likelihood of occurrence.

Purchasing this product indicates you understand these platform-specific variables and have reviewed the information provided.

GOAT Series – Greatest Of All Time. Greatest Of All Tasks.

The GOAT Series is built for those who do it all. Whether you’re chasing deer at dawn, calling coyotes at dusk, or standing guard in the dead of night—GOAT loads are designed to meet the demands of the modern marksman who expects versatility, precision, and repeatable real-world results from a single rifle and round.

At Ally Munitions, we've spent years sitting on the idea of the GOAT line, knowing that when we launched it—it had to check every box. We’re proud to say this is it: a line that delivers handloaded performance, field-tested reliability, and the versatility to dominate multiple roles without switching platforms or zero.

GOAT 6mm ARC – 87gr Berger VLDH

Our first offering in the GOAT Series launches with Berger’s 87gr VLD Hunting projectile. This load has proven itself repeatedly in our real-world field testing—across barrel lengths, gas systems, and applications ranging from home defense and predator control to whitetail and hog hunting.

While this round isn’t the ultimate predator-specific pill like a 65gr V-MAX, it dramatically outperforms heavier match projectiles like the 108gr ELD-M when it comes to coyote application. The VLDH is a balance of BC, penetration, expansion, and velocity—making it our top recommendation for one-gun hunters looking to master a single do-it-all load.

How These Velocities Are Calculated: Our In-House Ballistic Engine

Our ballistic engine is built on real-world data, not guesses. We use:

  • Chronograph readings from multiple rifles
  • ±10 FPS velocity spreads
  • Powder-specific temperature response curves
  • Elevation-based adjustments from our 2,550 ft West Texas test facility

Our collected real-world velocity data is used as the foundation of the model. From there, our in-house ballistic engine models expected velocity changes at different temperatures and environmental conditions.

This allows us to predict cold-weather performance with impressive precision. That said—you should always chronograph through your rifle to confirm real-world DOPE and drop data.

Operational Envelope

To help customers better understand the potential downrange capability of this ammunition, Ally Munitions uses two separate models that together make up what we call the Operational Envelope.

MIVM — Minimum Impact Velocity Model: Gives you a generalized idea of the distance at which the projectile remains above our established minimum impact velocity. Simply put, the MIVM helps show where the projectile can be expected to perform more predictably in the target.

TVM — Transonic Velocity Model: Gives you a generalized idea of the distance at which the projectile remains above our 1,350 FPS transonic reference. Above this reference, the projectile's flight can generally be modeled more predictably using traditional ballistic models. Once velocity falls below this region, projectile flight can become slightly less predictable and traditional ballistic models may not represent actual downrange performance as consistently.

Both are models. They are intended to give you a generalized idea of the ammunition's potential Operational Envelope based on Ally Munitions' collected data and testing. They are not guarantees of exact performance or recommended hunting or shooting distances.

MIVM — Minimum Impact Velocity Model

For the 87gr Berger VLD Hunting, Ally Munitions uses 1,600 FPS as the minimum impact velocity reference.

Barrel Length  MIVM – Distance to 1,600 FPS
12.5" 625 yards
14.5" 640 yards
16" 660 yards
18" 720 yards
20" 760 yards

The MIVM helps you understand where the projectile is modeled to remain within its more predictable terminal-performance envelope in the target.

This does not mean that every shot inside the modeled distance will produce identical terminal performance, nor does it establish a recommended maximum hunting distance. Actual impact velocity, shot placement, target anatomy, angle, environmental conditions, and other variables can affect terminal performance.

TVM — Transonic Velocity Model

For this ammunition, Ally Munitions uses 1,350 FPS as our transonic velocity reference.

Barrel Length  TVM – Distance to 1,350 FPS
12.5" 800 yards
14.5" 875 yards
16" 890 yards
18" 920 yards
20" 940 yards

The TVM helps you understand the distance over which the projectile's flight can generally be modeled more predictably using traditional ballistic models.

Once the projectile falls below the transonic reference, its flight can become slightly less predictable and actual downrange performance may begin to vary more from traditional ballistic predictions.

Understanding the Operational Envelope

Together, the MIVM and TVM make up the Ally Munitions Operational Envelope.

The MIVM provides a modeled reference for predictable performance in the target, while the TVM provides a modeled reference for predictable performance in flight.

These models are built from Ally Munitions' collected data, test elevation, temperature, and environmental conditions and are designed to give you a generalized idea of what to expect.

They are not guarantees of exact performance, maximum hunting distances, or maximum shooting distances.

Always chronograph the ammunition through your individual rifle and establish and verify your own ballistic data.

Why It’s the GOAT

Our internal ballistics team has tested this load extensively. It has delivered sub-MOA accuracy, consistent cycling, and clean terminal performance in every platform we’ve thrown at it—bolt guns, gas guns, 12.5" barrels, 20" DMRs and everything in between.

This isn’t just a solid all-around option. It’s the GOAT—Greatest Of All Time, and Greatest Of All Tasks.

Use Guidelines

KEEP IN MIND THESE ARE A PLUS P TYPE OF AMMO, YOU WILL CERTAINLY WANT TO RUN A HEAVIER BUFFER WEIGHT IN THE AR-15 PLATFORM.

  • Compatible with AR-style and bolt-action platforms
  • Runs clean suppressed or unsuppressed
  • Best for mixed-use hunters, field DMRs, and home defense setups
  • For maximum performance: clean your rifle every 100 rounds

Care & Storage

All GOAT Series ammunition is packaged in two sealed bags with 20 rounds in each bag and silica packs, then wrapped and boxed for long-term stability and moisture control.

Store ammunition in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and humidity.
