The 105gr Berger VLD Hunting has been one of our favorite 6mm ARC hunting projectiles time and time again. After several years of testing, load development, and real-world hunting experience with the 6mm ARC, we continue coming back to it for one simple reason: it works.
From close-range hunting to stretching the capabilities of the 6mm ARC at distance, the 105gr VLD Hunting gives us the combination of precision, consistency, ballistic performance, and terminal performance we're looking for.
We've used this projectile on game ranging from smaller-bodied animals through what many would consider large game. Within the proper operational envelope of the rifle, ammunition, projectile, conditions, and shooter, we ourselves wouldn't hesitate to take this offering elk hunting.
At this time, it falls into our Cull Buck line because first and foremost, this is serious hunting ammunition.
But don't mistake "hunting ammunition" for a lack of precision. This is hunting ammunition you could literally take to a match. Like most of our tuned ammunition, precision and consistency aren't secondary considerations—they're part of the standard.
Every round is handloaded, tested, and produced around the performance standards we've established through years of working with the 6mm ARC.

Why the Berger 105gr VLD Hunting?
The 105gr Berger VLD Hunting has continued to earn its place throughout our 6mm ARC testing. We didn't choose it because it was simply one of the heaviest projectiles we could load. We chose it because of the complete performance we've repeatedly seen from it.
Berger lists the 105gr VLD Hunting with a G1 BC of .545 and G7 BC of .278. Its VLD profile gives us excellent aerodynamic efficiency and retained velocity, while the hunting design gives us the terminal characteristics we're looking for from the Cull Buck line.
One of the biggest advantages is how well all of those characteristics work together. It gives us excellent precision, excellent consistency, strong retained velocity, and the terminal performance we've come to trust through years of testing and hunting.
For our Impact Velocity Threshold Model, we use 1,600 FPS as the minimum impact-velocity benchmark for reliable expansion with this projectile based on our testing and collected data. Later in this listing, we'll show exactly what that means by barrel length so you have a practical reference for the projectile's operational envelope.
This isn't about picking a projectile because one number looks good on paper. It's about years of testing the complete combination and repeatedly coming back to the same conclusion.

This offering was developed around the same standard we expect from our tuned performance ammunition: hunting performance does not come at the expense of precision.
The 105gr Berger VLD Hunting has proven exceptionally consistent for us, and when paired with the components selected for this offering, we're seeing sub-10 FPS standard deviations in most cases throughout our testing.

This is handloaded ammunition from start to finish. The Cull Buck line is built around performance, not mass-production volume.
Every component in this offering was selected based on how it performs as part of the complete system. Brass, primer, propellant, projectile, seating consistency, and our loading process all have to work together to produce the results we're after.
We control the loading process carefully, monitor component lots, inspect finished ammunition, and continually evaluate production samples against the standards established during development.
The components selected for this offering have also given us excellent temperature stability throughout our testing. That matters because we want the ammunition to remain as consistent as possible whether you're hunting in colder winter conditions or warmer environments.

The Impact Velocity Threshold Model is part of Ally Munitions' in-house ballistic modeling and is designed to give you an easy-to-understand reference for the projectile's estimated hunting operational envelope.
For the Berger 105gr VLD Hunting, we use 1,600 FPS as our minimum impact-velocity benchmark for reliable expansion based on our testing and collected data.

Transonic Reference Model – 1,350 FPS
The Transonic Reference Model is designed to give you a generalized idea of how far each barrel length keeps the projectile above our 1,350 FPS reference velocity.
Why does this matter? As a projectile continues downrange and loses velocity, it eventually begins entering the transonic region. As it moves through this region, changes in airflow around the projectile can affect stability and make its flight less predictable. This can increase dispersion and make your ballistic solution more difficult to true consistently at extended distances.
We use 1,350 FPS as a conservative reference point, not as a universal velocity where a projectile suddenly becomes unstable. Atmospheric conditions affect where this transition occurs, but using a consistent 1,350 FPS benchmark gives us a useful reference for comparing barrel lengths and understanding long-range performance.

Platform & Suppressor Testing
This 6mm ARC Cull Buck offering was developed and tested for use in both semi-automatic and bolt-action rifles.
As with all of our ammunition development, we collect substantial amounts of data across different barrel lengths, rifle configurations, and environmental conditions before an offering moves into production. Every component is selected based on how it works in conjunction with the complete system, not simply how one individual specification looks on paper.
Our semi-automatic testing is conducted with flow-through-style suppressors, while our bolt-action testing includes traditional baffled suppressors. Suppressor design, gas-system configuration, barrel manufacturer, chamber dimensions, barrel condition, and other platform-specific variables can all influence the results you see from your individual rifle.
This is not ammunition designed around high-volume magazine dumps. It is handloaded, performance-based ammunition developed around precision, consistency, reliability, and hunting performance.

Packaging & Storage
Cull Buck ammunition is packaged in a 20-round heavy-mil sealed, resealable bag with a silica gel pack inside.
We've spent considerable time developing and testing the variables surrounding ammunition and component storage. How components are stored before loading, how finished ammunition is packaged, and how you store that ammunition after purchase can all matter when consistency is the goal.
The idea is simple: store your ammunition as well as you reasonably can. Protect it from excessive moisture, but also avoid unnecessarily exposing it to extremely dry conditions, excessive heat, direct sunlight, or major environmental swings.
After opening the package, leave the silica gel pack inside and reseal the bag when you're finished. The heavy-mil bag isn't simply disposable packaging; it's part of the storage system we've selected for the ammunition.
We've put considerable time and effort into controlling component and ammunition storage on our end. Maintaining good storage practices after purchase gives you the best opportunity to preserve the consistent performance the ammunition was developed to provide.
